The second method is far easier & more precise since your aim is near the ball destination rather than the ball source, plus in some cases the putting area is quite close to the edge of the screen, making it hard to pull back and add more force without accidentally scrolling off screen and resetting your putt. If you want it to go toward a specific area but want to go harder than the force to get there then click in a straight line beyond the target in order to hit the target with more force.
